The Beginnings

The first workshop began in July 2004, when the inhabitants of a Lebanese village, Bsous, complained about a transmission of conflicts from adults to children. It was the first “on site” experience with the children.

After the first workshop was held in Bsous, Lebanon, with great success we confirmed our vision that children can be interested in this new open door that helped them discover and express themselves.

Norma Sfeir, founder of this vision, anthropologist, movie maker, director of an international cultural association, felt that a common thread was running through all countries and humans, a common human language obliterated by imposed cultural habits and beliefs.

She says : ”To find transparency again, why not give each child the opportunity to be in touch with their own true expression, through art. This could help them transcend all their differences and once again find the beautiful that unites us all, and express it“.

We believe in a single language. A universal one where there is no space for pretended cultural and social barriers. A language that unites all human beings.

This creative language goes beyond each own personal culture. A universal language, a language that all human beings understand, that is connected in deep roots.

Frida Debbanne, poet, journalist, and the facilitator for the writing in that particular workshop says:” this was a paradise for us; it brought a new breath that enveloped all of us and the children as well”
